The 9/11 Tribute Lights as seen from Brooklyn, marking the 22nd anniversary of the terror attacked that changed the world.
On the walk to Brooklyn Bridge Park I worried that I was too late and that the site was probably packed to the gills with photographers. But to my surprise there weren't that many, and I was able to find a spot to setup the tripod. I guess in retrospect the buckets of rain had perfect timing, keeping hoards of photographers away, and bringing some puffy clouds instead.
The Blue Supermoon of August 2023 from Eagle Rock. Unfortunately, at the critical moment the moon was obscured by clouds, and the air was quite hazy. The plane flying into the moon was a surprise that I only discovered at home on the computer screen.
Recently i toyed with the app PhotoPills and started to get a hang at planning shots where the moon or sun is over a building or other structure. Here the full moon happened to align with the Freedom Tower around sunset on a Saturday from across the river in Jersey City, which is easy for me to get to. To my amazement the planning actually worked, except at the moment the moon was touching the tip it was obscured by clouds. Also, Jersey City is a bit too close to the Freedom tower, so the moon appears smaller than I wanted it to, so that was a lesson for next time.
The shots are all taken with the 200-500mm lens on a tripod. It was very windy and the darker it got and the shutter dropped the harder it got to get stable shots. Next time I'll raise the ISO more to get faster speeds.
